Hill and Plain School is a “Caring Place with a Rainbow of Opportunities for Everyone to Dream, Create, Learn and Succeed.” Our preschool through grade two building is filled with an array of caring and kind staff members who are well-trained and dedicated to providing our children with a fruitful education through active learning and collaboration among staff, administrators, parents, students and community.

Our preschool program is named EXCEL, which stands for Experiential Center for Early Learning.  It services three to four year old special need and typical students. We have had much success with this early intervention program in remediating a variety of developmental delays. Our kindergarten through grade two programs are enhanced by special classes in art, music, physical education, library media science, and guidance.  All classes also have access to our computer lab.

Varying levels of intervention and support are provided by a reading teacher, an interventionist, special education teachers, speech-language pathologists, occupational and physical therapists, a school psychologist, guidance counselor, social worker, a Talented and Gifted (TAG) teacher, English Language Learner (ELL) staff, tutors and paraeducators.

Along with all district schools, Hill and Plain focuses on Character Education, highlighting the character attributes of respect, responsibility, honesty, compassion, perseverance, citizenship, integrity, loyalty, courage, and cooperation.  This helps us to build a safe and friendly environment to support our efforts in eliminating bullying. Safety and security are of the utmost importance to us. Thus we ask for the assistance of all members of our school community in helping to maintain a secure school environment by adhering to security procedures.

We are very proud of our phenomenal Parent teacher Organization (PTO) which enhances the instructional program with financial support for cultural arts presentations, teacher grants for instructional materials, field trips, monthly Family Fun Nights, book fairs and PTO Science Cart.

We gladly welcome all new faces to our HPS family and embrace the opportunity to create a wonderful learning experience for every child who enters our doors.

Warm regards,
